How to Read Hebrew

Unlock the Hebrew alphabet and discover the joy of reading Hebrew.
Whether you’re brand new to Hebrew or looking to refresh what you may have forgotten, this course will give you the tools to confidently sound out Hebrew as it appears in the Jewish prayer book and the Hebrew Bible. Step by step, you’ll learn the Hebrew alphabet, the vowel system, and the foundations of Hebrew reading in a relaxed, supportive environment.
  • Meets online via Zoom, Mondays, 7:00 - 8:15 pm Eastern time
  • Twelve sessions, beginning September 28, 2026
  • Sessions will be recorded, in case you miss one.
What you’ll be able to do:
  • Read and sound out words from the Siddur (Jewish prayer book) and the Tanach (the Hebrew Bible). ​
  • Follow along more confidently during synagogue services and Torah study.
  • Build a strong foundation that will grow with practice and participation.
  • Be ready to take the next step by learning the meaning of the words, in Introduction to Prayer Book Hebrew!
