How to Read Hebrew

Learn the Hebrew alphabet and the basics of the vowel system, so you can follow along and sound out Hebrew as it is printed in the Jewish prayer book and the Hebrew Bible.

Meeting online via Zoom
  • Ten sessions, from Oct 27, 2024 to Jan 5, 2025. See calendar below.
  • Meets Sundays, from 12:00 pm to 1:15 Eastern time. 
  • Instructor: Stephen Lehmann, kind and patient veteran Mekom Torah teacher.
  • Textbook: ​Aleph Isn't Tough, by Linda Motzkin.
  • Video recordings will be available in case you miss a class.
What you can expect to accomplish
  • Be able to follow along and sound out the text of the Jewish prayer book and the Hebrew Bible.
  • Be ready to get more and more fluent as you practice and participate.​
  • Be ready to start learning the meaning of the words, in Introduction to Prayer Book Hebrew!
Tuition: The tuition for this class is flexible, like all Mekom Torah classes. You may simply tell us what you can afford. No questions asked. For those who can afford it, we ask $200 for this series.
