Reading the Tradition in Hebrew
For people with a bit of familiarity with Hebrew vocabulary and grammar – you don’t have to be anything like a fluent Hebrew speaker for this! If you want to deepen your understanding of the language and delve into the meaning of the Bible, the prayer book, and the commentaries, this class is for you. Go beyond the translations to see the native beauty, power, and complexity of the text in its own language.
This season we will go deep into the Abraham and Sarah saga. These are the primordial origin stories of the people of Israel. Many people know the stories at one level, but reading them in the original Hebrew is very much worth the effort. It allows us to ask new questions about family, peoplehood, nation, and identity. It is also some of the most beautiful and carefully crafted Hebrew ever.
Join in any time. (We review basic grammar as it comes up in the readings - not to worry if it's not at your fingertips.)
When: Monday evenings, 7:30-9:00 pm, every week, with breaks now and then.
