Begin your journey toward understanding Hebrew.
|
For people who can read the letters and who want to participate fluently in Jewish services with growing understanding of the Hebrew prayers. A perfect next step after How to Read Hebrew. Meeting online via Zoom
|
Before you begin: Learn the Hebrew alphabet and the basics of reading with vowels. You don't have to read fluently, just know the letters and vowels.
Goal of the Course: If you want to participate fluently in Jewish services and follow along in the prayer book with understanding, this class is for you. Over the course of the the year, you will have constant "Aha!" moments as the words on the page and in your ears begin to have meaning.
Instructor: Rabbi Jeremy Gerber, an experienced and talented teacher whom we are lucky enough to add to the Mekom Torah teaching staff. He graduated from JTS rabbinical school, is rabbi at Beth El of Edison, NJ, and lives in the Philadelphia suburbs with his partner, five children, and three cats.
How this is like a college course: There will be homework. Consistent attendance is expected. Commitment is paramount!
How this is different from a college course: It’s fun and welcoming, with no grades, just encouragement and pay-off for hard work.
Textbook: Aleph Isn't Enough, by Linda Motzkin
